Voted best of 2009 by Pittsburgh Post Gazette and Pittsburgh City Paper, the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater, presents NewMoves 2010 a contempory dance festival that engages Pittsburgh audiences in supporting new talent with movement ideas that are fresh, challenging and fun.
NewMOVES Contemporary Dance Festival is committed to providing Pittsburgh contemporary dance artists and audiences with opportunities to experience dance in a new way. The festival presents diverse dance works that push boundaries with dance experiences grouped into three categories -- shared Evening Programs, YouthMoves, Emerging Choreographers and Community Dances.
The festival seeks to encourage and present experimentation, collaboration and performance excellence by emerging choreographers. There are three evening programs.
The Emerging Choreographers Program features new 10 minute dance works by emerging new choreographers. These works will be performed as part of the evening programs. In addition, the festival includes YouthMoves which presents dance by young dancers in elementary and secondary school.
Each program will feature a pre and post show mixer with some of Pgh's best DJs and tasty treats from neighborhood restaurants. The festival also offers post show discussions for each performance to encourage audiences and artists to discuss the ideas and process of creating the work.
This festival supports our efforts to celebrate and encourage new ideas in dance, efforts that we support Next Stage Residency, Creative Community Residencies, the Emerging Choreographers Program and our season presenting.
