Pittsburgh’s only contemporary dance festival is back for its fifth year.

Presented by Kelly Strayhorn Theater

KST’s newMoves festival shares new work by young choreographers from Pittsburgh and around the country. Each evening is a medley of four to five short works presented in one exciting program. Come enjoy dance and a vibrant audience that knows how to have fun!

Featured Choreographers – Thursday

  • Marýa Wethers
    Marýa Wethers is a movement artist based in NYC since 1997. She has worked with David Thomson, Deborah Hay (as part of Some Sweet Day curated by Ralph Lemon at the MoMA), Yanira Castro, and Faye Driscoll. Her work has been performed at Danspace Project in April 2013 and through the Parallels Platform on evenings curated by Bebe Miller and Jawole Zollar, and at The Yard as a 2012 Bessie Schonberg Choreographers Residency artist. In addition, Mar´ya commissioned, produced, and performed the solo TARGET::furnace at The Chocolate Factory and Dance New Amsterdam in collaboration with choreographer Daria Faïn. Upcoming projects include performing in the work of Senga Nengudi through Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art at the Studio Museum in Harlem.
  • Abigail Zbikowski
    Abby Zbikowski is a choreographer investigating the role that movement plays in live performance and the power of watching it. Abby’s work with her company, the New Utility, has been presented at DNA’s Raw Material, Movement Research at Judson Church, the nEW Festival, Philly Fringe, COLLAGE Arts Festival, the Hear/Now series presented by Kelly Strayhorn Theater, among others. Her work has also been commissioned by The Ohio State University, where she received her MFA and currently teaches full-time.
  • Annalee Traylor
    Upon receiving her BFA from Point Park University, Annalee Traylor became a founding member of the August Wilson Center Dance Ensemble in 2010 and has since been presenting her work in the greater Pittsburgh area. Most recently, her piece Paradisin’ was presented at the Young Choreographer’s Festival in NYC.
  • Megan Mazarick
    Megan Mazarick is a Philadelphia-based choreographer, dancer, and teacher. Her choreography has been presented most frequently in Philadelphia (Live Arts Festival, nEW Festival, Philadelphia Dance Projects, PARD) and New York City (Movement Research at Judson Church, Triskelion Arts, Dance New Amsterdam). She has also toured work internationally (Poland and Australia) and throughout the U.S. (San Francisco, Minneapolis, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New Jersey, and West Virginia).
  • Staycee Pearl
    Staycee Pearl graduated with honors from the University of Pittsburgh in 2009. She first debuted STAYCEE PEARL dance project at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater in 2010 and was honored to serve as resident dance company for the next three years. Her work is currently listed on Creative Capital’s ON OUR RADAR.
