Creative Community Residency Program
Kelly Strayhorn Theater's Creative Community Residency Program is a new Residency program for artists interested in forming meaningful connections with audiences while creating new work.
These residency projects ask artists to consider creativity as an artistic, social and cultural process. We ask artists to reflect on East Liberty as a place for creative expression and production; to consider the neighborhood's historic legacy and character.
During the residencies, selected artists find ways to engage our diverse community in their creative process; and to do so in a way that brings prosperity, artistic, cultural and social, to East Liberty.
Our selection of artists is guided by a set of principles. We are committed to artists creating work that is:
(1) DIVERSE, in aesthetics, discipline, cultures and scale;
(2) CONTEMPORARY, representative of and responsive to the complexities of today's world; specifically work that impacts (and/or is reflective of) urban social trends, ideas and artistic practice;
(3) INNOVATIVE, work that represents the best in new innovative approaches to art making;
(4) INTERDISCIPLINARY/COLLABORATIVE with and between artists and audiences, engaging artists/audiences in discourse regionally, nationally, and internationally.
There is no formal application process, but if you would like to send your materials for us to review in consideration for a residency, or special project, please submit the following:
1. A representative sample of your work (slides, DVD, Online Video or Audio Clips)
2. Biographic materials, resumé and press clippings
3. A description of your work, both past and current
4. Invitations to your upcoming shows (we do travel extensively, and although it is rare that one of us can make a special trip, it is good to keep us abreast of your activities)
5. A self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your materials
Note: We cannot ensure the safe return of all of these materials, and do prefer to receive documentation digitally if at all possible.

On occasion we do announce a "Call for Artists" which enables artists to submit their work for consideration for an upcoming special projects. Please sign up on our email list, or mailing list if you would like to receive notices.
