NewMoves Emerging Choreographers Program
We are currently accepting applications for the Emerging Choreographers Platform for newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival 2010.
The Emerging Choreographers Program provides an opportunity for young dance makers age 18 and up to showcase new work during the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater's newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival. This program provides valuable exposure for artists, as well as access to a rich peer network. Participants will receive mentoring from local and visiting professional artists in addition to sharing the stage during festival performances.
Submission Deadline: Friday February 26, 2010
Notification Date: March 5, 2010
Festival Performance Dates: May 13 - 16, 2010
There is a seven-minute maximum length for final choreographed works. The work selected for the festival must be new work, not previously presented or showcased.
Criteria for Selection -- The Kelly Strayhorn Theater values innovation, discovery and a commitment to exploring new ideas, approaches and aesthetics. Participants will be selected based on a demonstration of the above qualities and must possess a keen desire to develop and explore their work with their peers in the context of a festival program. Participating choreographers are required to participate in all scheduled activities.
Application Instructions:
- Submit the following materials by email to newmoves@kelly-strayhorn.org.
- Include a cover letter with a brief description of your work
- Artist statement -- Brief statement that describes your creative process
- Full name, mailing address, telephone number, date of birth and email address
- Description of the work you are submitting for consideration
- Submit a work sample of up to two full-length dance works. We prefer online submissions (Vimeo, YouTube etc.) Send link to the clips to the above newmoves@kelly-strayhorn.org
