Internships
Internships are about learning and the satisfaction that comes with it. At Kelly Strayhorn Theater, we strive to provide opportunities that not only supply real-world experience, but are tailored to the intern’s needs and professional goals. Our theater is growing, and this exciting and fast-paced development allows interns the chance to work with real people, in real time, on real goals. Internships are unpaid but eligible for college credit, and come with lots of experience, fun, and free tickets to KST shows. Interns are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week in their selected area. The positions call for hands-on, dedicated workers who enjoy many facets of the fine and performing arts. A regular schedule will be created at the outset of the internship, to total no fewer than ten hours per week for 12–16 weeks. Internships are available in the following areas:
Programming
- Create and plan KST Presents productions alongside Program Manager
- Coordinate aspects of Producing Partners Subsidized Leasing Program
Production
- Work with the Production Manager to fully execute the artist’s vision on stage
- Run lights, sound and crew as needed for KST Present productions
- Assist with general maintenance of the Theater
Marketing & Outreach
- Work with Marketing Manager to secure sponsorships and promote partnerships with local businesses; Coordinate Group Sales and assist in developing marketing and promotions strategies for KST shows.
Development
- Work with Executive Director and Development Director on Individual Giving Campaigns; prepare foundation proposals and reports; conduct foundation research and assist in identifying new funding sources for KST
Administration
- Theater operations - finance, human resources and contracts
Required Skills
Interest and experience through previous work or academic pursuits in the general areas of performing arts management; ability to multi-task; strong organizational and communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint); commitment to Kelly Strayhorn Theater’s mission; self-motivattiond, self-directed, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
